Americas Head of Operational Resilience and Business Continuity, SMBC Group
Janice DeNagy is a senior operational resilience and business continuity leader with more than 20 years of experience across global financial institutions, specializing in enterprise resilience, crisis management, regulatory alignment, and risk transformation. She currently serves as Executive Director of Business Continuity Management and Operational Resilience at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), where she leads the development and governance of business impact analyses, recovery planning, crisis and emergency management playbooks, and firmwide resilience policies.
In her role at SMBC, Janice partners closely with business, technology, and risk stakeholders to map critical business services and end‑to‑end operational flows, identify interdependencies, and assess downstream impacts to clients, applications, and third‑party vendors. She plays an active role in enterprise task forces and governance committees, providing subject matter expertise on operational resilience, threat monitoring, cyber events, and pandemic preparedness, while ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory expectations.
Previously, Janice spent over a decade at Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, where she held multiple leadership roles, including Vice President of Physical Data and Security Risk**.** In this capacity, she founded and built a new risk organization responsible for managing data‑bearing assets across more than 550 branch locations, significantly reducing data loss risk and strengthening physical security through the implementation of smart lock technology. She also partnered with Legal, Compliance, and Information Management to drive record retention and destruction initiatives that reduced risk and operating costs and led efforts to digitize analog processes to support a more resilient, paperless operating environment.
Earlier in her career, Janice held senior roles across advisory platforms, fixed income sales and trading, and capital markets risk, where she developed risk management programs, led regulatory and best execution initiatives, and supported large‑scale integrations and strategic growth initiatives. She began her career at Citigroup in Global Wealth Management, managing client remediation programs and supporting firmwide policy and platform changes.
Janice holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Fordham University and is recognized for her ability to bridge business, technology, and risk disciplines to deliver practical, sustainable resilience outcomes.
